Church Organization

     The Bordeaux Seventh-day Adventist Church is part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a movement which began in the United States in the nineteenth century and has spread worldwide.  Our mission is to proclaim the everlasting gospel in the context of the Three Angels Messages in Revelation 14:6-12.  This includes leading people all over the world to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and inviting them into fellowship with His church where nurturing can prepare them for the soon return of Jesus.

Levels of Ministry

  • The Local Church:

  •      Local congregations gather each Sabbath for Sabbath School and Church Services as well as mid-week Prayer Meeting.  They have one or more pastors and several church elders as well as others who also do ministry.  Many local church maintain K-8 church schools.  Their work is to minister to the local community.

  • The Conference:

  •      A conference is a group of local churches in a defined area, usually taking in states or provinces.  This association of churches allows the conference to organize and fund high schools and larger evangelistic efforts that the local churches could not afford on their own.  The conference also is the level that pays the pastors and helps pay for Bible teachers.  Thus tithe is paid to, and dispersed to pastors and Bible workers by, the conference.

  •      A group of conferences is known as a union conference.  In large countries, such as the United States. union conferences include conferences in a geographic region of the country.  However, in most areas around the world, the union conference usually takes in the whole country.  These organizations are able to handle larger organizations and evangelistic efforts that the conferences.  They are also usually responsible for the ownership and administration of colleges.

  • The Division:

  •      A division is a group of union conferences.  Each division usually covers a good portion of a continent.  Earth is divided by the church into thirteen divisions.  This organization can expand the ministries of the church even farther, being overall over community services, media ministries, health facilities, evangelism.  They play a major roll on international missionary services.

  •      The grouping of all the divisions of the church is the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  It is designed to keep the work coordinated and the message consistent throughout the world.  It stands in the best position to legitimize, fund, and negotiate for the vast missionary work the church operates.  It also administrates larger organizations that provide education, disaster relief and development, radio and TV programming, and medical services.

  •       This list of organizational levels may seem complicated at first glance, but it is designed to maximize the exposure of the gospel to people around the world.  The Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown from a few hundred people in the nineteenth century to over fifteen million member today.   And we consider each and every one of them as our brothers and sisters in Jesus.
